Beauty Students Share Insights on AI in the Industry with ITV
Coventry College Beauty Therapy students, Molly and Lilly, recently had the incredible opportunity to be interviewed by ITV as part of a segment exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in mainstream media.
ITV reached out to the college to gain insights from emerging beauty professionals on the growing influence of AI in creative industries. Molly and Lilly represented the college with confidence, drawing upon the knowledge and skills they have developed during their studies.
The students were asked to discuss whether they believe AI has the potential to replace real life artistry, particularly within the beauty sector. Sharing their perspectives, they highlighted that while AI can be a useful tool, it ultimately cannot replicate the human interaction and personal touch that many people value when visiting beauty professionals.
“It’s unrealistic, you’re not getting that human interaction that you would get without AI. I also think its better for the older generation, as they might struggle to understand AI”
They emphasised that while AI may help in certain aspects of the industry, the artistry and interpersonal skills of beauty professionals are still irreplaceable.
At Coventry College, students are not only taught practical skills in modern facilities, such as the college’s brand new salons and nail bars, but also encouraged to rely on their own creativity and capabilities rather than solely depending on technology like AI. This approach ensures students are prepared to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry, while also preserving the core values of their craft.
