Work Experience Works!

Coventry College is actively seeking to engage with local SMEs within the Coventry & Warwickshire area, who would be able to offer work experience placements to college students. Work Experience is essential to every learner’s development as it enhances their skills, qualities and responsibilities within their chosen area of study for future employment. The benefits to employers are:

C.L.Charley a Double Glazing Installer, established for 20 years, had previously had never provided work experience. With Work Experience Consultants Danielle’s help, business owner Craig offered seven, one-week work experience opportunities for students. Participation proved to be extremely beneficial as one of the students was subsequently offered full time employment with Craig:

“I was apprehensive about taking on College students for work experience, however in my search for a trainee I had great help and back up from Danielle at Coventry College. We were able to see the students in the practical classes instead of sitting them in a formal interview. I was very surprised at how difficult it was to pick out the seven students, but Shane was the best thing to come out of this whole experience.”

Shane Muller, a Coventry College student said: “Given the chance to work with Craig at C.L.Charley was a great experience. Coming from college and going straight into work was a big change but a great opportunity. Doing my work experience really helped me with getting work ready.”
